Dear Candidate:
The Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce will be putting a non-partisan voter guide in our November Express. It will be delivered to approximately 1800 members by November 1, 2002. We will list all candidates for the race you have filed for and graphically lay out the answers you provide to the following, questions. .
Due to space constraints we ask you keep your answers short. Two sentences per question would be best. However, we reserve the right to edit responses to fit .the space provided. No answer will be editorially changed. Your brief response is best.
Please return your questions marked "Voter ,Guide Responses." Please mark each question numerically to make it easier for us to assemble. (ie. Question #1, Question #2, etc.)

Questions could also be faxed to 722-3223 attention Andy, or mailed to Andy Peterson, Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce at 5 West 1st St., Duluth, MN 55802. Our deadline is October 8, 2002 at 5:00 PM. Due to publishing deadlines responses received after this deadline are not guaranteed to be published.
Question #1. ,
If elected what is your proposal to develop private sector jobs in our region?
End the war between developers/business and environmentalists.
I will be a liaison between both sides to find compromise. I'll also vote keep
the recent C&I taxes cuts in effect.
Question #2.
If elected what are your proposals to help the forest and mining industries in our region?
See above. I'm interested in promoting other mineral
mining and finding ways to make lumbering profitable and ecologically friendly.
Question #3.
If elected what taxation policies will you pursue?
I will do what's necessary to balance the state budget
with both budget cuts and tax increases. I believe that progressive income taxes
are the fairest and most sensible way to do this.
Question #4.
Identify the top four issues that face business and what policies you would propose to help in , those areas.
First, keep C&I taxes down. Second, give business
some hand in crafting sensible regulatory policy. Third, build bridges with environmentalists
and other business critics. Forth, Stick up for business when its being unfairly
criticized.
Question #5.
What is the biggest thing small business (50 or fewer employees) need to succeed?
Hard work, creativity, teamwork, and a healthy economy.
