Minneapolis Star Tribune Dutcher reportedly to name Duluth legislator running mate
Published May 2, 2002
State Rep. Thomas Huntley, DFL-Duluth, reportedly will be named the running mate of DFL gubernatorial candidate Judi Dutcher today as delegates gather for the state party convention in Minneapolis. Dutcher, the state auditor from Minnetonka, has scheduled a 10 a.m. news conference at the State Capitol to reveal her choice for lieutenant governor, but neither her campaign nor Huntley would comment Wednesday on broadcast reports that he will be tapped. Several of his House DFL colleagues, however, indicated that he is Dutcher's selection. Huntley, 64, is an associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Minnesota Duluth School of Medicine. He is in his 10th year in the Legislature after serving on the Duluth City Council and other civic boards. His wife, Gail, is a former state DFL vice chairwoman. In the House, Huntley has specialized in health and education issues. His presence would add outstate balance to the ticket for Twin Cities suburbanite Dutcher. -- Conrad deFiebre |
