The Big Picture

As I contemplate a run for the legislature in 2002 I'll present information that I have found useful and which indicates my own thinking on various subjects.

Food Stamps vs. Food Shelves On the boundary between effective charity and governmental support

Arab world vs. Modernization, Thomas Friedman, author of from Beirut to Jerusalem and a reporter for the NY Times describes the central obstacle in Arab/Islamic world for getting along with the west. I've been thinking that the best thing we could do in America is to follow the suggestion of others to have our Islamic citizens take the lead in communicating with the Islamic World. Further, especially in light of Friedman's column, we should encourage American Muslims to institute their own Islamic oriented universities for the training of Muslim clergy and allow America to become a leading light for the Islamic world as it wrenches Islam from the first Millennia into third. Minnesota with its growing Somali/Ethiopian population could become one of the centers for such a new university.
