Regarding the Picture:

This is the famous picture of Harry Truman waving the Chicago Tribune the day after his victory over the Republican Presidential candidate Dewey. The Tribune had the banner headline "Dewey Defeats Truman" across it but it was just their conservative publisher's wishful thinking. Two years ago in my campaign against Senator Doug Johnson I used this doctored image on my original Givemhellharry website. I was just being cheeky. So, today as I was creating this page it occurred to me that once again I was running against a "Johnson" albeit "Al," a Republican endorsee. This old image leaped to mind and it was particularly appropos for this primary.

Like Harry Truman in 1950 ( the year of my birth) I went to bed with the polls showing me losing. I didn't believe the polls for one minute. They showed Johnson leading me by 68 to 1. So I went to bed a loser and woke up a . . .      Well, I wasn't certain until 10AM because of a software glitch in the balloting machinery.  Even though I didn't know it as I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes I woke up a winner.
